Greenhouse farming
An introduction to protected cultivation.
- Greenhouses protect crops such as tomatoes and capsicum from rain and some pests, but cost more to build and manage.
- Good ventilation, clean water and hygiene are essential.
- Plan crop rotation and sanitation inside the greenhouse as well.
- Work out costs and expected returns before you invest.
- Visit working greenhouse farms and talk to your extension officer first.
Verify locally: figures, varieties and product choices differ by altitude, season and variety. Confirm with your county agricultural extension officer or KALRO before acting.
