How to prepare a nursery
Healthy seedlings give a healthy crop.
- Choose a sheltered spot with light shade and access to clean water.
- Use clean, well-drained soil or potting mix, free of disease.
- Sow seed at the depth recommended on the packet and keep moist but not soggy.
- Watch for damping-off and remove affected seedlings.
- Harden seedlings off by gradually exposing them to full sun before transplanting.
Verify locally: figures, varieties and product choices differ by altitude, season and variety. Confirm with your county agricultural extension officer or KALRO before acting.
